Class Description 'Froca is an exhilarating dance fitness class deriving from both traditional and popular dance, musical and cultural traditions from across Africa and the Caribbean. 'Froca incorporates traditional and urban moves combined with high impact fitness exercises. The high energy class introduces students to the latest dance and musical trends from Africa and the Caribbean, while also exposing students to traditional techniques, deeply rooted in cultures across the continent and the diaspora. Through choreographed numbers, broken down technique, thoughtful warm-ups, and community-driven stretching and cool-downs, the class covers diverse rhythms such as Ndombolo, Coupe decale, Soukous, Gweda, Panstula, Kuduro, Azonto, Shoki, Kizomba, Raga, Dancehall, Soca, Calypso, and more. Originally conceived as an iconoclastic rejection of contemporary western dance technique, butoh aims to strip away socially acceptable movements and gestures, and encourages students to find and embrace hidden movements that lie buried beneath years of conditioned behavior. In this weekly, ongoing class we focus on butoh movement methodology, the aim of which is to uncover ‘the natural body.’  Each class begins with a somatics-based warm-up, partnering work to explore skeletal, muscular, and fascial layers of movement and energy exchange, and vigorous floor work. Advanced Beginner Level Class Description As an advanced beginner level dancer I assume you know most of the fundamentals of what NY Mambo or NY salsa is all about. With this class comes more technique and some more creative shines or footwork combinations. You will be challenged more often and every class will be something new to learn. The class is taught with a series of advanced beginner shine steps and  partnering fundamentals that you do not want to miss when learning the style of NY salsa. As an advanced beginner level dancer you are allowed to clean up any small details on Wednesday  nights beginner level class for FREE and you will receive three online classes as a part of the package. Sabar Drum Class with Malick

Malick Ngom is a talented, masterful drummer who was introduced to it by his grandfather at around the age of 2, and a member of the Sing Song family of griots from Senegal. His role as a griot was to conduct healing ceremonies, folklore storytelling, sharing of Senegalese history, and passing on the culture through the spirit of drumming. While his specialty and strength lies in the use of the Sabar drum, he is as versatile and skillful in the use of the other drums such as Djembe, Djundjun. Malick is also currently a member of two bands, one international Jazz and the other, Afro-Celtic. $15 Thursdays

This class is designed for people of all ages, levels, experiences, and abilities. Everything from the warm-ups and stretches to the across the floor work and choreography is adaptable for each individual and you are encouraged to adjust it to fit your needs and goals. This class is a safe space for anyone to explore dance. This class is ideal for people who are first time movers, recovering from an injury or have not been dancing recently, long time dancers looking to develop their own style, and anyone who wants to share a dance class with friends or family. The payment style for this class is unique. The cost of the class is the cost of the studio split between the dancers who sign up. When more people sign up for the class, the price decreases.
