Class Description 'Froca is an exhilarating dance fitness class deriving from both traditional and popular dance, musical and cultural traditions from across Africa and the Caribbean. 'Froca incorporates traditional and urban moves combined with high impact fitness exercises. The high energy class introduces students to the latest dance and musical trends from Africa and the Caribbean, while also exposing students to traditional techniques, deeply rooted in cultures across the continent and the diaspora. Through choreographed numbers, broken down technique, thoughtful warm-ups, and community-driven stretching and cool-downs, the class covers diverse rhythms such as Ndombolo, Coupe decale, Soukous, Gweda, Panstula, Kuduro, Azonto, Shoki, Kizomba, Raga, Dancehall, Soca, Calypso, and more. Teacher bio Sylver Rochelin Randrianantenaina is a professional dancer from Madagascar, having spent the last decade specializing in Malagasy popular dances, Afropop, Caribbean, Hip Hop, Jazz and contemporary. Mondays 7:00 – 9:00pm Suggested Donation: $5 - $10; No one will be turned away for inability to pay Butoh is an avant-garde movement form first performed by Japanese artists Tatsumi Hijikata and Kazuo Ohno in 1959. Originally conceived as an iconoclastic rejection of contemporary western dance technique, butoh aims to strip away socially acceptable movements and gestures, and encourages students to find and embrace hidden movements that lie buried beneath years of conditioned behavior. In this weekly, ongoing class we focus on butoh movement methodology, the aim of which is to uncover ‘the natural body.’  Each class begins with a somatics-based warm-up, partnering work to explore skeletal, muscular, and fascial layers of movement and energy exchange, and vigorous floor work. The latter half of each class is spent developing fragile and vulnerable states in the body to explore the “materiality of being.”  Image-based poetry is used as grounds for...

West Afro Beat Dance Training helps increase flexibility , endurance ,and cardiovascular stamina all while giving you a burst of energy ! Class will be held Every Tuesday starting September 11th at Studio 550 From 6 pm to 7:30 pm Each class will be $15 cash only please .
