Dear artists of Studio@550,
After a long silence since we closed our doors at 550 Mass. Ave in December 2020, I’m writing you with some great news! There will be a new dance rehearsal, class, and performance space. Read on.During the spring of 2021, I had helped spearhead the “ArtAssembled” program with the Somerville Arts Council at Assembly Row. Since that time, the program has grown to include 3 spaces both in Assembly Row and the Armory and has since changed its name from ArtAssembled to SomArt Space. Each space had a movement/rehearsal focus and many of you have graced those spaces with full rigor.
In June of 2022 I officially was hired the Art Space Coordinator for the Somerville Arts Council. With this new role, Arts Council Director Gregory Jenkins and I sought a new space in 561 Windsor St. in Boyton Yards, Somerville in Union Sq. colloquially called the “Taza Chocolate Building” (yes, they still make chocolate there). We located a 2,800sf open layout space very suitable for dance on the 4th floor. After many months of sought approval from the Mayor and City Council, we are well on our way to occupying and operating a new dance space in Somerville. Anticipated opening Aug/Sept.
How can you be involved in the new space?
Currently, SomArt @ the Hive has a call for proposals for:
Ongoing Rehearsals (seasonal and yearly contracts)
Classes
Performances
Please visit https://somartspace.org/somart-space-the-hive/ to find out more about artist calls and keep updated about the development of the space and its’ programing. There’s a place to signup for targeted emails as well.

What does this mean for Studio@550 as an organization?
Studio@550 remains to be a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and will continue to run our fiscal sponsorship program as well as other future initiatives and programs which serve our multidisciplinary focus.
A change of name. A slight shift of focus.
Studio@550 will eventually transform its name to Zero Point Arts in order to re-vision and re-brand ourselves to be more modular in future initiatives without a name attached to an address or specific space. Our Facebook and Instagram accounts have already started to take shape. Soon, our website will also change its URL, so be on the lookout for that.
I look forward to reconnecting again if we haven’t done so already either in the new SomArt space, by joining our fiscal sponsorship program, or just around town during the many exciting events that are happening around town.
With you in creating,
Callie
