Aug 22 – 26 Let’s Take Class Week
As some of our favorite places to take class are closed during this time, some of us find ourselves a bit lost before the Fall season starts up. How are we to get back into the swing of things? And for those of us who are consistent in our class taking, how are we to continue the rigor and practice if the classes are few and far between? Fear not! Studio@550 has an affordable way for both class takers and teachers alike. During the week of Aug. 22 – 26 Studio@550 will offer some tastings of classes that either are ongoing, or are wanting to become. Come and join us in either capacity. Class Teachers: Propose your class with the form below. Want to try something new? Want to find new students for your existing class? This is a perfect opportunity to do that. Find a time that works for … Continue reading →
It’s On Me!
The it’s on me campaign was designed to stimulate class taking within the Boston dance community. If you are handed this gift it should have sufficient cash to take a dance class wherever you wish. Here are the rules: * Use the funds enclosed here to take a class within the next 2-3 days. * Check in by posting one (dance class taking photo) photo to instagram using the hashtag #danceclassboston with the name of the class or teacher that you took or post a photo to Facebook using the same hashtag (#danceclassboston). * Sign your name below and the style of dance you took * Please put the money you would have spent on the class you took in the envelope. (This started out with $20) * Pass it on to the next fellow human. It is a physical book-like envelope that is circulating dance classes in Boston. Be … Continue reading →
A few small (important) things dear renter
Dear Studio Renter, As we approach month number 4 in operation the Studio has come so far. From gathering community, minor space adjustments, to holding some really unique events such as Open Floor, a talk with Sidra Bell, and most recently Molly and Tessa Make A Dance. There are new wonderful classes and numerous rehearsals happening daily. As we get more interest and embark on this new journey there has been a few learning curves: The online scheduling system in all of it’s greatness of ease and transparency, has a few kinks to be worked out. I’m working them out as we speak. So if you see anything a little odd, don’t mind me, just trying to make the system even better. If you see everything working fine, even better 😉 Food and Trash: As some of you may know there is no trash collection for the building. It means … Continue reading →
Sidra Bell ARTISTS TALK
We were thrilled to welcome ArcDRL, Sidra Bell, and the JCC of Newton into our space this past Thursday for an Artists Talk. There was a conscientious and enthusiastic audience willing to get to the nitty gritty centered around Sidra’s work. Kat Nasti (of ArcDRL) breaks it down: Amazing discussion with Sidra Bell, Jewish Arts Collaborative, and Boston Dance Artists! Sidra is AMAZING . . .what a warm and beautiful person on top of being such an amazing artist. Favorite takeaways and fun facts: 1) When you don’t have an opportunity make your own opportunity – Keep Moving Forward. 2) Even Sidra gets some costumes at the Salvation Army:-) 3) The goal is to take care of the people, i.e. making decisions like establishing a smaller company to take care of the humans in the best possible way . . .time, pay, benefits, etc. 4) Outreach is an important part … Continue reading →
