to the Youth Arts program at Studio@550.  Our program aims to provide a well-rounded arts education for 8-18 year olds which fosters a creative and supportive environment, pre-professional syllabus, small classes for individualized attention, creative opportunities, performance opportunities, and family-centric opportunities.

Our DANCE classes offer a wide-range of opportunities to allow the students to create within their interests and abilities.  We currently offer classes in:

  • Ballet
  • Modern/Contemporary
  • Choreography
  • Theatre Tech/Stage Craft

With future workshops and master classes scheduled throughout the year.

The Dates* for this year is as follows:

Session 1: Sept. 18 – Dec. 16 (14 weeks)
Session 2: Jan. 2 – March 30 (14 weeks)
Session 3: April 2 – June 15 (9 weeks) 

*There will be performance opportunities at least once per session.  Dates TBA.  All dates will be shared with parents and students via a Google Calendar as well as posted online.

TUESDAY

Stretch 3:00 – 4:00

Boys and Girls ages 8+
Learn how to properly stretch and condition your body before and after you dance. Learn basic anatomy while stretching and toning your muscles for dance (and life)!

Ballet Intermediate     4:00 – 5:30

Boys and Girls
Ages 9+
Ballet (Intermediate) continues the exploration of ballet through a holistic and measured approach leading the student through more intermediate steps and patterns.
Prerequisite: At least 1 year of ballet training.

WEDNESDAY

Afternoon Release     3:00 – 3:30
(No registration required / Drop-in only)

Come after school and before dance class to unwind in various forms. From a gentle psudo-yoga inspired stretch, to possibly a game of freeze dance and even free drawing. Everyone is invited to participate (siblings, caregivers, friends, etc.) Open to the public to encourage creating a community where everyone can be involved. This is a drop-in series where you pay what you want when you arrive. NO REGISTRATION REQUIRED.

Modern/Contemporary     3:30 – 5:00

Boys and Girls
Ages 8+
This is a basic level contemporary dance class focused on the exploration of movement expression through basic somatic and modern/contemporary principles.

Choreography/Improvisation     5:00 – 6:00

Boys and Girls
Ages 8+
No matter what your style of dance, learn the tools to utilize your craft as an expressive medium. Learn how to create a piece of choreography with methods that will allow your creativity to merge with refinement. Students will engage both as choreographers and dancers in each others work and will be able to show their pieces frequently in informal performances at the studio. Improvisational skills will also be taught in this class and used as a tool to generate movement material to be utilized in a choreography as well as by itself in a performance context.

FRIDAY

Movement Warmup     3:00 – 4:00

Boys and Girls
Ages 8+
Come and spend an hour to tune in to our bodies with a movement warm up including light stretches, rage of motion exercises and expressive improvisation. No dance experience required. Perfect pairing with dance production (which follows this class) for basic movement concepts and how to incorporate the space.

Dance Production     4:00 – 6:00

Boys and Girls
Ages 10+
Ever wondered how things on the stage work together to create a dance production? Anything from lights, to sound, video projection, and even simple things like knowing the names of theatre tech supplies like tie line, and a cyc. This is an excellent pairing with the choreography class (Tuesdays 3:30-5).

SATURDAY

Open Ballet (all levels)     10:00 – 12:00

Boys and Girls Ages 8+
This class is a great addition to your weekly classes. Learn the principles of ballet while harnessing the expressive qualities of the technique. This is an open level ballet class and you can choose to register for 14 weeks or use it as a drop-in class on a week by week basis. Great way to introduce students to the studio, or even bring a friend (for registered students).
